The Haiti Project

“The Vassar Haiti Project brought distinct parts of my life into an unexpected and euphoric harmony. It was tremendous luck when I met Lila & Andrew Meade and learned they needed a video editor. In the VHP, I found a way to combine my passion for social engagement with my aspirations as a filmmaker. Nearly a decade later, I can see how the VHP has been the engine for so many of my artistic pursuits; I've explored the stories of a long-term AIDS survivor, a food shelter worker in the American South, survivors of the Rwandan genocide, African migrants in the Mediterranean, and others. The dedicated, critically-engaged, and supportive community of the VHP was the fertile ground where I discovered the filmmaker -- and global citizen -- I could be. My appreciation for the skills and sensitivities that this group instills in students only deepens as time passes. Being a part of the Vassar Haiti Project is an indelible experience and I am so grateful for my luck in sharing a piece of it.”
