Supporting and providing healthcare in rural Haiti
The Haiti Project’s 11th annual Art & Soul Gala raises funds for the staffing, supplies, and operation of a medical clinic in Fiervil, Haiti for a full year. The clinic annually serves thousands of families from 45 remote mountainous communities by providing medical care that these residents would otherwise not have access to. The Art & Soul Gala is supported by local physicians, businesses, and families from the Hudson Valley.
We invite you to learn more, and to join us to celebrate the progress being made and to take a stand for improving healthcare accessibility in rural Haiti.
Meet Our 2023 Honorees
Dr. Gueslin Joassainvil
Dr. Gueslin Joassainvil former director and physician of the Fiervil clinic, launched its opening in 2014, bringing professional medical standards and promoting healthcare education to the villagers. He is the doctor who oversaw the Haiti Project’s clinic in Fiervil from the years 2014-2022. The clinic serves 45+ villages and 3000+ patients annually. Since his childhood, it was his dream to become a physician. He achieved this goal in October 2013 and in December of that same year he started a new chapter of his life with VHP. He quickly found in VHP his second family by providing education in healthcare for the community of Chermaitre.
Each week, he would take the bus from Port au Prince to Gonaives, two motorcycles from Gonaives to Fiervil, and cross the river by foot in order to arrive at the clinic. Dr. Gueslin considered this sacrifice necessary as he wanted to contribute to the goal of saving lives in the villages that previously lacked healthcare. He is a source of inspiration and motivation for our VHP students who had the opportunity of collaborating with him on the development of the clinic. He also developed friendships with many members of the Medical Advisory Board when they visited Haiti.
Dr. Gueslin always said that, “VHP is more than an organization but a family of people with great hearts. I send my appreciation to all of you through the magical words of ‘I love you’”.
Nancy Belok
Nancy Belok is a founding member of the Haiti Project’s Medical Advisory Board. In 2012 she invited prominent local physicians to form our Advisory Board, guiding the functions of the clinic and raising funds annually. Nancy’s focus on our mission has ensured that the clinic provides continuity of care for 3,000 patients annually.
Nancy is a longtime resident of the Hudson Valley. She graduated from Brandeis University and received her Masters from Tufts Univ. in Boston where she lived for 25 years. There Nancy pursued an innovative career co- founding a cutting edge corporate childcare consulting business and pursued her commitment as an Instructor of Transcendental Meditation. In 1993, with her husband Adam, Nancy returned to Poughkeepsie to join her family business, ultimately serving as its President and Owner. Their children, Sarah Rose and Zachary have been the highlight and greatest joy of her life. Inspired by her parents, Bea and Marty Gross, Nancy also devoted time to our community, serving on the Boards of the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum, Half Moon Theater and the Bardavon Opera House.
Nancy has promoted the good work of our Board, and through it had a huge impact on the lives of those served by our clinic. Believing in our mission, she generously shares her personal and professional network and nurtures creative ideas to fruition. For 21 years, she has been an enthusiastic ambassador for VHP since inception and we are delighted to honor her for all she has done for the Medical Advisory Board and for the people of Haiti.
